2. Interfaith Dinner to Challenge the G8/G20.

In June 2010, the G8 and G20 summits will be held in Canada. A corresponding summit of global interfaith leaders will encourage the G8/G20 to fulfill their commitment to the Millennium Development Goals, this year emphasizing poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and peace-building. Faith communities around the world share these objectives. This dinner, co-hosted by Noor Cultural Centre and the Salvation Army Canada, is an opportunity for us all to speak with one voice on these issues to our elected representatives.

Jawani Bhangra Competition is a for-youth-by-youth event, geared towards the South Asian community, in an effort to celebrate Punjabi culture. At the competition, youth teams will showcase their talent in the performance of the original folk dance of Punjab, Bhangra.

5. A Journey with Arab Folk Music

From Rabat to Baghdad

Between efforts to preserve classical music and the rise of commercial pop, Arab folk music fell through the cracks. The many anonymous poems and melodies, which express the immense diversity of the Arab world and the rich variation in its regional sensibilities, were central to many forms of celebrations and social occasions. Tarab will perform such pieces from many parts of the Arab world in an evening of celebrating this almost forgotten repertoire.

7.Doors Open Toronto

For one weekend a year, buildings across Toronto open their doors to the public during the Doors Open Toronto festival. In its 11th year, the festivals theme and central focus is architecture.

Each building participating in the event, there are 150 of them, has architectural, historic or cultural significance and most are not generally open to the public. Guests can explore places of worship, bedrooms, boardrooms, theatres, banking halls and modern landmarks. Once inside the buildings there are tours, activities, exhibits and talks.

The 2010 program consists of ask the architect, guided architecture walking tours by the Toronto Society of Architects, a showcasing of green and sustainable projects in Toronto including gardens and the green roof at City Hall, and more.
